Welcome to my world. : ) Well, at least my little place on the internet.
Blue Roses is basically my journal. Why did I name it Blue Roses? Well, I like the color blue and I like roses. <.g> Nothing very interesting there, I'm afraid. As for the tag line, my friend Biz suggested that I use a line from a favorite show when I was having difficulties thinking of one on my own. Well, back in the second season or so, Mulder referred to Scully as "the enigmatic Dr. Scully." I thought it was cute, so I adopted it. Besides, I am chock full of enigma, baby. LOL
Actually, that's what this journal is about. I am so full of things that are hard to understand or explain that even I don't understand me. <.g> So, I'm using this as a place where I talk or think aloud to myself and try to make sense of things. That means that not all of the posts will be completely clear or, you know, make sense. LOL Sometimes the posts will be short and fluffy, othertimes they will be long or dark. Whatever is on my mind is what I'll talk about, so anything goes. I don't know much about what this will become, but I do know this much - not all of it's going to be pretty or fun. I'd love to have you along for the ride, though, if you're up for it. : )
This design evolved in April 2001. I read just a quick sentence on an Anne of Green Gables list that the silent movie version had been destroyed due to a scandal where the lead actress had an affair with the director. Curiosity piqued, I investigated a little further and learned the whole story. Well, the whole of the story that is available. Mary Miles Minter, born in 1902, was a very popular and famous silent movie actress, and her director was William Desmond Taylor, thirty years her senior. Taylor was brutally murdered in 1922, one month before Mary's 20th birthday, and her lingerie and love notes to him were found in his bungalow by the police. By 1923, she was out of Hollywood forever.
During my search for the full story, I became more and more drawn to Mary in particular. Her entire story was fascinating, not just this one gruesome event. I was able to locate dozens of her pictures from the late teens, and one in particular jumped out at me. Yes, that would be the image you see now. <.g> I loved how beautifully it was set up, where she was both looking at the mirror and at the camera. From that image came all of this.
See you at the blog.
